In the Name of God the Merciful the Compassionate
To; The Distinguished Head of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Justice – Yazd [May his glory last forever]
With respect, I would like to bring to your attention, that I, Ali Mottahari, have had allegations made against me that are completely unfounded and are based solely on my belief in the Baha’i Faith.
For instance, I have been accused of being anti-Islam, but in fact I believe in the fundamentals of the religion. I worship God and believe in the prophet hood of Mohammad as His chosen one. I consider the Quran to be God’s revelation to Him, and confess to the Judgment Day and Resurrection and completely accept God’s Justice and Imamat and also believe in the Jafari sect of Islam. Therefore as these are my fundamental beliefs, how can I be accused of or be considered to be anti-Islam, anti-revolution or anti-Islamic Republic? I reside in Yazd and have a private business. I have never been in the public service of the previous government which might have provided me with the opportunity to abuse my power nor have I [been worried that I may have] lost that power as a result of the [Islamic] revolution.
Additionally, as a Baha’i, I should be obedient to the laws of the government, I have been obedient to the government of the Islamic Republic and have not committed any action, movement or, behaviour or spoken a word which could be considered as opposition to the Islamic Republic. From the social point of view, I have not participated in or been a member of any political party, group or political society. I have not been a member of the Rastakhiz Party, though most people were obliged to accept its membership.
I have been a businessman spending all my time attracting my client’s satisfaction through my good behaviour, so that I could provide a livelihood for my family. But unfortunately these recent allegations have incurred heavy financial and spiritual losses. Therefore, I now request that you issue a decree to my innocence.
[belief in the divinely appointed leadership of Imams after the death of Prophet Muhammad]
