Continued Detention and Uncertainty of 11 Baha’i Women in Baharestan, Isfahan

HRANA News Agency - Shourangiz Bahamin, Roya Azadkhosh, Maryam Khorsandi, Sara Shakib, Firouzeh Rastinejad, Sanaz Rasteh, Azita Rezvani, Mojgan Pourshafi, Nasrin Khademi, Noushin Hemmat and Sholeh Ashouri, eleven Baha’i citizens from Baharestan, Isfahan, are in detention in and the reasons for the arrests, the charges against them, and the whereabouts of these individuals are unknown. Among them, Sholeh Ashouri and Sara Shakib have not had any contact with their families since their arrests. Nine of these citizens were arrested by security forces on Sunday, 5 Ordibehesht [25 April 2021] and two others were arrested on 10 and 15 Ordibehesht [30 April and 5 May]. During this time, the homes of at least twenty-nine Baha’i families have been searched by security forces and many of their personal belongings confiscated. Home searches and detentions have often been accompanied by violence and sometimes beatings.

According to the HRANA news agency, the news organ of the Iranian Association of Human Rights Activists, today, Saturday, 25 Ordibehesht 1400 [15 May 2021], Shourangiz Bahamin, Roya Azadkhosh, Maryam Khorsandi, Sara Shakib, Firouzeh Rastinejad, Sanaz Rasteh, Azita Rezvani, Mojgan Pourshafi, Nasrin Khademi, Noushin Hemmat and Sholeh Ashouri, eleven Baha’i citizens from Baharestan, Isfahan, are still in detention and the reasons for the arrests, the charges against them, and the whereabouts of these individuals are unknown.

Despite the fact that most of these citizens have been able to call their families at least once under the supervision of the security forces, both Sara Shakib and Sholeh Ashouri have still denied to make telephone calls, and the lack of response from officials has increased the concerns of the families about these citizens. Ms. Ashouri, who was previously detained by security forces in the city of Hendijan in Khuzestan province, has been transferred to the detention centre of a security institution in Baharestan, Isfahan, according to officials.

On Sunday, 5 Ordibehesht [25 April], Roya Azadkhosh, Maryam Khorsandi, Sara Shakib, Firouzeh Rastinejad, Sanaz Rasteh, Azita Rezvani, Mojgan Pourshafi, Nasrin Khademi and Noushin Hemmat were arrested by security forces. On Friday, 10 Ordibehesht [30 April], Shourangiz Bahamin, a Baha’i citizen living in the city, was arrested at his father’s house in Boyer-Ahmad. At the time of writing, the reasons for the arrests, the charges against them, and the whereabouts of these individuals are unknown.

Earlier, the house of Ms. Ashouri’s father was searched by security forces to detain this citizen [Sholeh Ashouri]. According to a source close to this Baha’i citizen’s family, on Wednesday, 15 Ordibehesht [5 May], the security forces climbed the wall and entered the house to arrest her while Sholeh Ashouri’s husband was not present. During the arrest, the security forces confiscated many of the Baha’i couple’s personal belongings, including cell phones, books, pictures, and works related to the Baha’i faith.

Also, since Sunday, 5 Ordibehesht [25 April], the houses of at least twenty nine Baha’i citizens named Mansour Shirazi, Mehrdad Ajir (Shourangiz Bahamin’s relative), Touba Bahamin, Enayatollah Motahhar, Sanam Behin-Aien, Afshin Bahamin, Mehrzad Parsinasb (Sanaz Rasteh’s relative), Parham Naghipour, Pejman Naghipour (Nasrin Khademi’s relative), Bahram Rezvanikhah (Azita Rezvanikhah’s relative), Farah Rastinejad, Parviz Rahmani (Mojgan Pourshafi’s relative), Afshin Vojdani (Noushin Hemmat’s husband), Hemmat family (Noushin Hemmat’s parents), Soroush Shakib (Sara Shakib’s relative), Kavous Ashouri, Hamid Behnam (Firouzeh Rastinejad’s relative), Farzad Rouhi (Maryam Khorsandi’s relative), Roya Azadkhosh, Iran Daneshnia, Hamid Ettehadi, Shirvan Khavas, Sohrab Rezvani, Siamak Golshan, Soheil Barazandeh, Amir-Hosein Khorsandi (Maryam Khorsandi’s brother), Mrs. Zareie, Boushra Motahhar and Sholeh Ashouri were searched by the security forces and many of their personal belongings were confiscated.
